さすが……大物の考えることは違う！

黒澤明監督の影響や日本の文化、SAMURAIから大きな影響を受けたことが
うかがえる、世界的に大ヒットを記録した映画と言えば！
僕も子供の頃から大ファンの映画、ジョージ・ルーカス監督の「スター・ウォーズ」だ。
この「スター・ウォーズ」に出てくるキャラクターの一人「ダースベイダー」のボディは、
伊達政宗の「黒漆五枚胴具足」だとも言われている。
（これって、すごくない？）
そして、伊達政宗と言えば！
みなさんご存知の通り、小さな頃に病気で右目を失明し、「独眼竜政宗」と呼ばれているサムライだ。
 

 

そんな政宗には、こんな興味深いエピソードがある。
政宗が、とても大切にしていた高価な茶碗。
ある日それを政宗自身が、落としそうになってしまった。
「ヤバいっ！」
一瞬、焦った（きっと、冷や汗をかいたことだろう）政宗だったが、なんとか
落とさずに済み、ホッとした・・・のも束の間、ある時、その茶碗を
自ら地面に叩き付け、割ってしまったのだ。

驚いた家臣が理由をたずねると、政宗は、こう答えた。
「高価な茶碗を落としそうになって焦り驚いた、自分自身の心の小ささに
　腹が立ったから割ったのだ」と。

いやいや、こういう考え方ができる人こそ、逆に度量が大きいのだと思う！
やはり普通の人にはマネできない、こうした潔さ、
ものの考え方のできる人こそ、真のSAMURAIだ。
うーん、カッコいい・・・

The movies of the famed Japanese director Kurosawa Akira provided the inspiration for one of the greatest American movies and franchises ever. One of Kurosawa’s fans was the director, George Lucas, who based not just the storyline on a Kurosawa classic, but the image of one of his major characters, Darth Vader, was apparently based on the daimyo of Sendai, Date Masamune. As a child, Masamune lost his right eye to pox, hence his nickname of Dokuganryu Masamune, the One Eyed Dragon of the North.
Masamune wore a Gomai tate gussoku armour, being not of horizontal plates like most armour of the time, but five rounded standing plates, hinged together to form the Do, or body armour. The shape of Darth Vader’s helmet was based on a different samurai helmet, but the overall shape and image is supposedly that of Masamune.

An interesting episode regarding Masamune goes like this.
Masamune was in possession of a very expensive tea ceremony bowl. One day, while admiring it, the Lord almost dropped the treasured bowl! He gasped, and prevented it from falling in the nick of time. Looking at the bowl, he raised it in both hands, and then threw it to the floor shattering it into pieces. 
A much surprised retainer asked the reason why, after saving it, did he smash the tea bowl? The One Eyed Dragon’s answer was such. At first he was shocked at the possible loss, but at that instance, realizing that his heart had been so small as to be affected by a tea implement, smashed it. Now the bowl was no longer, he felt relieved.

Indeed, a normal person couldn’t think this way. This is the thinking of a true Samurai.
